One honest qualification: an electronic travel authorisation is a quick online step rather than an embassy visa, but it is still a step. "Visa-free" in the industry sense does not mean zero paperwork, and we would rather you knew that before your first trip than at the airport.

The honest weak spot
The United States is the exception, and it got worse
No Caribbean passport delivers easy access to the United States, and Antigua's position deteriorated in 2026 rather than improving. We publish this on the benefits page deliberately, because a benefits page that omits it is not a benefits page.
If the United States barely features in your travel, none of this may matter to you, and Antigua's strengths in British and European access plus its household pricing can still make it the right choice.

Does Antigua tax my worldwide income once I am a citizen?
No. Antigua & Barbuda abolished personal income tax in 2016 and levies no capital gains, inheritance or wealth tax. Holding the passport does not by itself make you tax-resident there, and it does not end your tax residence wherever you currently live. The taxation page sets out the distinction properly.
Can I keep my existing citizenship?
Antigua permits dual nationality and imposes no requirement to renounce an existing passport. Whether your current country allows you to hold two is governed by its own law rather than Antigua's, and a small number of countries do not. We flag it early where it applies to you.
Does the citizenship pass to my children?
Yes. Citizenship granted under the programme is full and hereditary, passing to your children and to future generations under the country's nationality law. That is the characteristic that distinguishes it from a residence permit, and the reason it is worth doing once rather than renewing indefinitely.
