Requirements

Requirements, eligibility and the document checklist

To qualify you must be a main applicant aged 18 or over with a clean criminal record, good health and a legitimate, documented source of funds — and then make a qualifying investment through one of the four approved routes.

This page sets out the criteria in full, explains who you can include, gives you the document checklist, and shows how due-diligence screening actually works. Getting these foundations right is what makes the rest of the process uneventful.

Eligibility

The four conditions on the main applicant

Each is verified during due diligence, so accurate documentation at the outset matters more than anything you can say later.

  • Aged 18 or over — The lead applicant must have reached majority to make the investment in their own name.
  • Clean criminal record — No serious convictions, and no sanctions or security concerns that would fail regional screening.
  • Good health — A medical certificate confirming good health and the absence of conditions of public-health concern.
  • Legitimate source of funds — Clear, documented proof that the money invested was lawfully earned or acquired, with a narrative that holds together.

Meet these and you choose a route. Minimums and route comparisons are on the programme page.

Your household

Who you can include in a single application

Antigua has one of the broadest dependent definitions in the Caribbean, which is the main reason it delivers such strong value for multi-generational households.

Dependents who can be included in an Antigua & Barbuda citizenship application
DependentCondition
SpouseLegally married to the main applicant.
Dependent childrenUp to age 30, subject to dependency criteria.
Unmarried siblingsAny age, of the applicant or spouse, where dependency is established.
Parents & grandparentsAged 55 and over, of the applicant or spouse.

A single $230,000 NDF contribution covers a household of up to 4, with $15,000 per additional dependent. To model the most economical combination for your household, see the family page.

What to prepare

The document checklist

Each applicant assembles a similar core set. We issue a tailored, household-specific checklist with certification and translation requirements per document, but this is the standard shape of it.

Background checks

How due diligence actually works

Due diligence is the rigorous screening that every applicant aged 16 and over must pass. Independent checks examine identity, criminal history, financial standing and the legitimacy of the source of funds, alongside open-source and adverse-media research. Under ECCIRA, introduced in 2026, the process is deliberately thorough — and it is the single biggest reason a well-prepared file moves faster than a hurried one.

The same age threshold of 16 governs the verification interview in place since December 2023, at roughly ~$1,500 per applicant. Children under 16 are not interviewed or separately screened, though their documents remain part of the family file.

Our task is to assemble a clean, consistent and fully evidenced application before it reaches the authorities, so that heavier scrutiny does not become avoidable delay or, worse, a refusal. Part of that work is uncomfortable: we ask direct questions about past convictions, regulatory matters, sanctions exposure and the origin of every significant sum. Answering those candidly at the outset is the cheapest insurance available in this process.

Eligibility questions

Common questions about requirements

What are the basic requirements to apply?
The main applicant must be at least 18, hold a clean criminal record, be in good health, and prove that the invested funds come from a legitimate, documented source. You then make a qualifying contribution or investment through one of the four approved routes. Your spouse, children up to 30, unmarried siblings of any age, and parents or grandparents aged 55 and over can be included in the same application.
What documents will I need?
Each applicant generally needs a valid passport, a birth certificate, a marriage certificate where relevant, a police clearance certificate, a medical certificate and recent passport photographs, with the main applicant additionally providing documented evidence of the source of funds. Documents usually require certification, and anything not in English requires a certified translation. We issue a checklist built for your specific household rather than a generic list.
Who is screened, and from what age?
Every applicant aged 16 and over is screened individually on identity, criminal history, source of wealth and reputation. The same age threshold governs the mandatory verification interview. Children under 16 are not separately screened or interviewed, though their documents still form part of the family file.
What counts as adequate proof of source of funds?
Evidence that traces the money to a lawful origin and holds together as a narrative. In practice that means audited accounts or company documents for business income, employment contracts and payslips for salary, sale agreements for the proceeds of a disposal, and bank statements covering the relevant period. A large transfer with no documented origin will be queried however innocent it is — the standard is documentation, not honesty alone.
Can my application be refused, and on what grounds?
Yes. Citizenship is granted only once due diligence is satisfied, so an applicant with an undisclosed conviction, sanctions exposure, or funds that cannot be properly explained may be declined. Non-disclosure is treated more seriously than the underlying fact in most cases. This is why we screen candidly before filing — a problem identified early is often manageable, and the same problem discovered by a regulator usually is not.
I have a spent or minor conviction. Does that end it?
Not necessarily, and you should tell us rather than guess. What is fatal is concealment: a minor matter disclosed with context is assessed on its merits, while the same matter discovered during screening is treated as a credibility question about the whole file. Bring it to the first conversation and we will give you a straight assessment of whether the application is viable.
